Mustafa Celalettin Kilinc is a PhD student in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He joined the Human eXtended Reality Interaction (HXRI) Laboratory in 2025 as a graduate research assistant, where he applies human-factors principles to the design of extended reality (XR) healthcare and educational applications.
His research broadly focuses on human-computer interaction, user-centered design, and human performance in XR systems. His master’s work investigated the usability and user experience of tablet-based augmented reality systems in architectural design workflows compared to traditional 2D screen methods. Currently, he is leading the design and development of a virtual reality training simulation for nurses, defining learning objectives and interaction models to ensure effective knowledge transfer and a Mixed Reality interface for a gait analysis project using vibration sensors. He also developed a VR healthcare application tailored for older adults, with a specific focus on usability, accessibility, and cognitive engagement.
